Hospital Staff Holiday Candygrams

December 20th, 2019

This holiday season, SOAR created and delivered Candygrams to the Houston Methodist West Hospital to appreciate hospital staff and volunteers for all they do for their patients. Each candygram was personalized by a SOAR member. We were joined by the Tompkins Chapter in creating and delivering these candygrams.

Mary Kay Chemo Kit Partnership

November 2019

SOAR partnered with the Mary Kay Foundation to provide packaged chemo care kits for cancer patients. These kits include Mary Kay Cosmetic items such as hydrating body lotion, fragrance free hand cream, and a satin lips lip balm, etc. We put together 30 chemo care kits and donated them to a patients.

Youth Creators' Night Benefit Concert

August 10th, 2019

Crystal King raised $15,168.49 from her headline concert at the West Houston Chinese Church benefiting SOAR! Various youth creators came together to contribute to this cause.  Find out more on her website.

SOAR to College Scholarship

March 31st, 2019

This year, we awarded $3000 to deserving cancer fighters and survivors from around the country. They are using our scholarship to continue their education. Find out more about our program and our recipients here.

Shriner's Hospital Toy Donation

December 21, 2018

This holiday season, SOAR hosted our 2nd annual toy drive and donated to Shriner's Hospital for Children. In total we collected and purchased 180 toys including dolls, books, board games, legos, stuffed animals, puzzles, fuzzy socks, craft supplies, etc. worth over $2000.  

Shelter Donation Drive

December 15, 2018

After collecting many used/leftover items from previous drives, we realized our efforts could be used to help other communities. This Christmas season, we donated several toiletries, shirts, books, and household goods totaling 281 items to homeless shelters around the Houston area.

Family Game Night

November 16, 2018

At the Houston Methodist Hospital, we were joined by members from Obra D. Tompkins High School. We spent the night providing food and refreshments to nurses and families waiting for their loved ones going through treatment while playing games with their children. We raffled off a Whataburger package worth $300 to a lucky family in waiting.

Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer

We worked with St. Jude's Children's Hospital to form a team for their Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer fundraiser! Despite the pouring rain, we still had so much fun running the 5k together. We raised a total of $310 donated directly to St. Jude and we're excited to continue working with them in the future.

National Cancer Survivors Celebration

June 1, 2018

A huge thank you to Houston Methodist West for inviting us to be a part of this amazing celebration! With a barbecue lunch, line dancing, and a live country band, this celebration allowed everyone to "Give Cancer the Boot!" We talked to many cancer survivors and gave out all our "Put a Cap on Cancer" hats! We are excited to work with the many other cancer organizations we connected with at this event.

Spring Caps and Blanket Drive

In May 2018, SOAR branched out with our first delivery to adults with cancer! We delivered personalized "Put a Cap on Cancer" hats and blankets to Houston Methodist West Hospital. Our executive team brought 60 items for these patients.

Christmas Gift Wrapping

November/December 2018

SOAR gift wrapping was a success! We ran 6 gift wrapping shifts in November and December at Barnes and Noble (Westheimer.) We took customers' gifts and wrapped them so that they are ready to be placed under the Christmas tree, in Christmas stockings, or given directly to their loved ones. Though our service was free, we raised almost $650 from tips and donations! We would like to take a moment to recognize executives Alexis Ofori, Christina Ofori​, Rahul Mathilakath, and Crystal Wang,​ and members Vincent Kim​, Megan Ngai, Dustin Nguyen, Raumeen Seifi, Callum Clark, Natalie Atkinson, Celeste Chamaa, Maria Amador, and Michael Ma for volunteering at this event. 

2017 Christmas Toy Drive

December 16, 2017

To end the year off, SOAR decided to do a Christmas toy drive for children afflicted by cancer at Texas Children's hospital. Over the course of a week SOAR collected toys from students and delivered them on December 16 to Texas Children's Hospital. We collected over 400 items worth approximately over $2000. Finally, Soar would like to recognize students from Seven Lakes High School, Thomas Yeum, Eve Wang, Joy Wang, Flora Hu, Andrew Hallack, Leanne Wu, Aaron Tsui, and Jonathan Liu, and Memorial High School students Amelia Mannetti, Catelyn Huynh, Chandler Garner, Emily Scofield, Grace Touchstone, Lily Short, Mariel Rached, Megan Ngai, Susan Soh, Varij Shah, and Zara Italia for contributing to our drive. We would also like to thank National Honor Society from Memorial High School for helping with the donations.

Thanksgiving Cards

November 15, 2017

On November 15th, SOAR members came together and worked for hours creating thank you cards for under appreciated oncology nurses. We were able to deliver cards to over 100 nurses at Texas Children's Hospital, Memorial Hermann, and Houston Methodist Hospital. Each card was delivered to recognize all the hard work nurses do and bring a smile to their faces. We delivered them just in time for Thanksgiving to show nurses that their work does not go unnoticed.

Fall Garage Sale

October 28, 2017

Our first event of the semester was a small-scaled garage sale with donations by SOAR members. We sold various household items including books, games, sports items, clothing, accessories, as well as offering our Sponsored Lane and Simple cookies and homemade hot chocolate. We were able to raise almost $200 from the items sold and extra donations. Extra items may be used in future care packages for patients to enjoy. 

Lane and Simple Sponsorship

September 2017-January 2018

A huge thank you to Lane and Simple for helping out SOAR with their generous profit share. All the way until January 2018, 50% of the profits from their signature chocolate chip (Simple Chip), Toffee Chocolate Chip, Sugar Cookies, and Snickerdoodles orders were donated to SOAR. 

Sponsorship Contest

September 2017

The 3 SOAR Chapters plus the SOAR Executive Board participated in a sponsorship contest at the beginning of the semester. We reached out to various local businesses and our friends and neighbors to make a donation in return for recognition of their business. These sponsors will be recognized in all SOAR events across all chapters for 12 months. The winner of the contest was the Executive Board with the highest donation per member ratio. Crystal King Single Release - Soar With Me

July 7, 2017

​Crystal King just released her new single "Soar With Me" available on available on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, and many other music platforms. All proceeds from this single will be donated to the SOAR Foundation. Crystal wrote this song about her cousin currently fighting bone cancer and wants to use this song to inspire him and all other patients to keep holding onto hope and soar above life's hardships. Care Package Drive

March 31, 2017

The SOAR foundation hosted a care package drive at Memorial High School on March 20th-31st. We collected almost 900 item donations including books, games, school supplies, and personal care items that were valued at approximately $3500! Additionally, over $1200 was collected in monetary donations used to buy other items for our packages. Thank you so much to everyone that donated! Collected items are going to be put into care packages for cancer patients at the Texas Children's Hospital.
